The organizations that are facilitating the relief efforts need donations of money for food, water and medicine. Please, if you have any ability at all, please take the time to donate! Even if it only $5, every little bit helps.

Copenhagan Bicycle Chic, cannot get enough, inspiring, beauty, bicycle, woman, blog

Alright, I admit it, I cannot get enough of this blog. Whether it is the beautiful bikes, women, culture or fashion I am not sure, but one thing is certain, Copenhagen Denmark has got it going on in all the right ways. The city is devoutly dedicated to bicycles and the laws are written in such a way to strongly encourage the bicycle as the main mode of transportation in the city. Gas is in the neighborhood of $6.00 a gallon so it is no wonder well over 1 million km are traveled by bicycle daily in the city! People in Copenhagen ride everywhere on there bikes and carry everything from their grocery’s to their children on them. Some of the most innovative pedal powered delivery machines in the world can be seen in quantity on the streets there.

So this post is to introduce you to the wonder that is Copenhagen Cycle Chic. It is a taste of the possibilities that are possible when the public is dedicated to a better form of transportation. Explore the site, it is updated daily and full of phenomenal examples of Chic Cycling!

William Kamkwamba is a Malawian teenager. Unable to attend school as his family is unable to afford the $80 yearly tuition...

William Kamkwamba is a Malawian teenager. Unable to attend school as his family is unable to afford the $80 yearly tuition, he has taught himself by borrowing books and learning what he was interested in. He eventually came across a fifth-grade science book called Using Energy. In the book it described how to us wind energy to create electricity. Since only 2% of the households in his country have electricity, he was intrigued and set about building his own wind turbine. Electricity meant that people could read at night in their homes. A windmill that pumped water meant 2 hours a day savings hauling water for the familys crops.

So William set about digging in trash bins and junkyards for the parts he needed to build his own. Please remember that this is Africa and finding the necessary parts is not a simple task.

he collected things that most people would consider garbage—slime-clogged plastic pipes, a broken bicycle, a discarded tractor fan—and assembled them into a wind-powered dynamo. For a soldering iron, he used a stiff piece of wire heated in a fire. A bent bicycle spoke served as a size adapter for his wrenches

After months of work he hauled his apparatus to the top of a 16-foot tower made from blue gum tree branches. As the wind began to move the blades, Williams hard work started to become a reality. He went on to wire his house with four light bulbs and two radios, installing switches made from rubber sandals, and scratch-building a circuit breaker to keep the thatch roof of his house from catching fire.

William and his windmill remained a local hero only till the head of a teachers organization saw the windmill and recognized the monumental accomplishment. The media got a hold of the story and in the end Tom Rielly, TED’s partnership director befriended him and put funding behind him to irrigate and electrify his village and paid his tuition to attend further schooling.

William has since co-authored a book The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind which is one of the few modern African story’s that has a happy ending.

Two hundred million Americans are overweight and 100 million are obese. More than 75 million Americans have high blood pressure. 24 million people are diabetic. Heart disease remains the No. 1 cause of death for men and women, followed by stroke and obesity-related cancers. Obesity is about to overtake tobacco as the No. 1 cause of preventable deaths in the United States.

I am a huge fan of anyone putting together thoughtful provocative media projects that highlight the blight that the world finds itself in do to the greed, indulgence and outright selfishness of our modern day society. Processed People appears to be another excellent documentary on the state of our Eating Habits in the US. I know this is a touchy topic for many but the film appears poised to delve into the topic from a responsible perspective getting into the disaster that is the processed food industry and the addictive properties that what we consume has on our behaviors. In under 1 centuries timeline, we have ruined our water supply, fogotton how to responsible farm and now believe that consuming poisions through our food is alright as long as the FDA says it is.

Please plan on supporting this film and then blogging it up online. The population needs to wake up and obviously SuperSize It was not enough.

The Royal Ballet has welcomed a new choreographer, I am going to go out on a limb and say that this is an extremely important piece of choreography, Wayne McGregor. An unconventional choice for a typically conventional institution, but it appears to have paid off 10 fold. This following videos are from the world premiere in London, and they are nothing less than mesmerizing! The new work, titled Infra is a collaboration with Artist Julian Opie and Composer Max Richter, the result is Superb and Engaging!

At Paajaf we don’t believe that any barrier should prevent a person from realizing future aspiration and do we strive to provide a level playing field for orphans, other vulnerable children and women...

A little over a week ago I came across a request for action and a call for help from the Paajaf Foundation on Linked In. They were in need of any computer equipment that could be spared to help set up a learning center. After to responding to that need and learning more about this notable organization from one of the foundation’s founders, Philip Kyei Appiah, I decided a post was in order to make our readers aware of Paajaf Foundation and its honorable mission. Here at Headkleaner, we believe it is our duty to get the word out about deserving organizations whose sole purpose is to further the state of humankind.

Paajaf Foundation was set up by Philip Kyei Appiah and Juliet Adusei to fill a need to provide humanitarian services for orphans and other needy children, especially girls and women, in Ghana. Their endeavor is an ambitious one and will need all of the support that you can give to it. Paajaf Foundation exists to provide information, education and services like, but not limited to, the following:

providing information and education regarding children’s rights

adult education and literacy training for women and girls

providing education and information for foster orphans and other vulnerable children

educating people on the many levels of discrimination directed towards these children

equiping women, young and old, with vocational skills and craft that they might build a business and support their families

HIV/AIDS preventative education as well as care and support for those suffering from this epidemic

providing practical and social support for all women and children in need

Research policies concerning the orphans, women and children so that Paajaf Foundation may meet our goals on local, district, national and international levels

Paajaf Foundation’s Specific Activities and Programs

adult and child literacy education

a full suite of care and support programs for orphans and other vulnerable children

HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Hepatitis B, prevention and awareness, care and support programs

children networking

computer literacy programs

vocational and skill Training so that women may learn a salable trade that will help support themselves and their families

full time education for vulnerable children, helping to create a much needed future for them

psychological and social support

You can find out all you need to know about Paajaf Foundation as well as donate, at their websitehttp://www.paajaf.org

Headkleaner was impressed and excited by our correspondance with Philip. So we will be organizing a bi-annual or quarterly shipment of computer and office equipment, women and childrens clothes, books, pens, paper, toys etc to the Paajaf Foundation. If you are interested in donating new or used itmes but do not want to ship internationally, you can send it to us in care of the Paajaf Foundation and we will include it in our next shipment to them.

It is so important to give items, that you no longer need or no longer have a use for, to those that can pu them to notable use as opposed to just discardeding them! Headkleaner is a huge proponent of re-use and here is an excellent opportunity to see what you old itmes can, and are, doing for others around the world! It is our world, we are all part of the Global Village and we all deserve the possiblity for a better future!

Sincerely,

Aaron Malys of Headkleaner

Their number s are steadily declining.

On group that is seeking to raise awareness around the issue is ADDI Concepts which has designing a life-vest for polar bears. The vest is not intended for production but rather as a means to an end, that being to further increase the visibility of the grave situation the Polar Bears are facing as the ice caps melt beneath their feet!

I think this was an excellent example of the people coming together and getting the job done. Records were broken everywhere, History has been made, and the only HOPE America has had in quite some time is now President!

I think a huge shout out has to go out to Shepard Fairy for his poster work promoting the Obama campaign. It’s press reached a frenzied level, the ebay prices for the original’s are out of control and the image spread through the internet at record speed creating the much needed hype for the younger generation to get out and vote!

Thank you Shepard and everyone that was inspired, believed and followed through to get this job done.
Now thank yourself and go get a free Obama Obey sticker HERE.

Be patient and keep hitting refresh, there are heavy loads on the servers but it is worth the effort!

Here is the LINK to the front pages of over 700 publications and newspapers around the world covering the victory!
